Using a drone to spread the seeds will allow multiple small areas to be covered in little time and effort. As we are looking at small areas and strips of land we can map out each little area and let the drone do the work. This can be an ideal opportunity to make some money from areas of your land that is unfarmed or areas of a field that doesn’t produce good yields. The maximum area of land you can use this SFI for is 25% of your total land.
The XAG P100 Pro drone has a granule hopper of 80 litres. The clever software will map out your chosen areas and go to work. The drone uses precise GPS precision down to 1cm to make sure the right area is seeded. No touching of the surface, no unnecessary compression of the soil and easy access to fly over to those hard to reach areas, especially if you are looking and seeding wild flower on unfarmed land.
CAHL1: Pollen and nectar flower mix
£739 per hectare per year (over 3 years) these are the 2024 government SFI payments
This government sustainable farming incentive can be achieved by spreading pollen and nectar rich flower mixes across selected areas of your farm or horticulture land. To date the average price for spreading wild flower seed by drone is around £200 per hectare and drones can cover the ground with ease. Using the 80 litre granular hopper the drone can potentially cover 19 hectares per hour. Being realistic with seeding wild flower and guaranteeing the area is evenly cover the drones are not flown at top speed. The speed of the drone all depends on the required coverage rate that the farmer has requested. The hoppers are then calibrated to the seed mix being applied so the drone can calculate the correct rate to send out of the hoppers at a set speed and distance covered. The down draft from the propellers assist the seeds get down to the bottom of any existing cover.
