Cover crops applied summer 2025 and the results six weeks later
We attended a farm in Lincolnshire in late July to apply cover crops to 17 hectares over two fields. It was the first time the farmer has looked at using a drone for tis type of work so it was a kind of trial for this season.
As all of the agricultural sector will remember, 2025 has been exceptionally dry so the timing of application needed to be right. After the initial phone call from the farmer we had the job completed 4 days later. The weather was good and with rain forecast within the next two weeks it was an ideal opportunity to get the new crop in even though the existing crop hadn’t been harvested. This allowed the new seeds to have the protection from the existing crop and use the damp conditions to germinate.
Six weeks later in the first week of September, we received a phone call from the farmer who was extremely happy with the results. With the little rain fall and the ground so dry he was amazed how well the stubble turnips were doing. We returned to the farm the same week to check it out ourselves and get some additional footage of the progress of the new crop.
Another job successfully completed by Precision drone services
